Through a study conducted at the burns unit of the leading children’s hospital in South Africa, it was determined that the inclusion of Bio-Oil® Skincare Oil as a supplement in the management of burn injuries does the following:
– 96% of subjects reported that Bio-Oil® Skincare Oil is an effective aid to scar management
– 76% of subjects concluded that Bio-Oil® Skincare Oil alleviates the dryness and excessive itchiness of post-burn itch (pruritis)
This can occur early in the healing phase and can continue for months or even years. Pruritis is characterised by excessively dry and intolerably itchy skin. The itch can compromise the quality of life through inability to sleep, eat, work or play, as well as wound healing as the newly formed epidermal layer is often scratched off, which can result in a loss of grafted skin, sepsis and exacerbated scarring. Moisturising agents in conjunction with drug therapy are often prescribed in the management of post-burn itch.
Studies have shown that Bio-Oil® Skincare Oil helps in reducing the redness of newly formed acne scars, improves the general condition of acne marked skin and that it does not cause or aggravate acne or increase sebum secretion.
Bo-Oil® Skincare Oil is unlikely to affect the shape or size of a keloid scar. However, it may help to reduce the color of the scar and will also be beneficial in softening the surrounding skin.
